Table Expression (SQL)

Introduction

The Table Expression allows filtering and grouping on a table-reference-list.

Syntax

table-expression ::=
  from-clause
   [ where-clause ]
   [ group-by-clause ]

from-clause ::=
  FROM table-reference-list

where-clause ::=
  WHERE search-condition

Remarks

A Table Expression allows filtering and grouping operations on a table-reference-list. If the optional where-clause and group-by-clause are omitted, the result of the table-expression is the same as the from-clause. Otherwise each optional clause is applies to the previously specified clause and the result is the result of the final clause.

Examples

An table expression that retrieves table names in the 'Core' schema:

SELECT T.Table_Name
    FROM information_Schema.Tables T
    WHERE T.Table_Schema = 'Core'
