Notification Icon

Introduction

The Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon is a feature of the Windows version of Fernhill SCADA. It is visible in the Notification Area of the Windows Taskbar:

Depending on your desktop settings the Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon may be hidden:

The icon provides:

A visual indication of the state of the Fernhill SCADA Server.
A context menu to manage the Fernhill SCADA Server.

Starting the Notification Icon

The Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon starts automatically when you log on to a Windows computer.

If for any reason the notification icon is not running, you can restart it. Fernhill SCADA places a shortcut to the Operator Interface on the Windows Start Menu. Use this table to find the shortcut based on the Version of Windows you are using:

Windows Version	Shortcut Location
Windows 11	Open the Start menu. Click All apps Scroll down and expand Fernhill SCADA Server.
Windows 10 Windows Server 2022 Windows Server 2019 Windows Server 2016	Open the Start menu. Scroll down and expand Fernhill SCADA Server.

Notification Icon Appearance

The Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon shows the state of the Fernhill SCADA Server:

Icon	Description
	The Fernhill SCADA Server is running as an active server.
	The Fernhill SCADA Server is running in standby mode and is synchronizing to the active server.
	The Fernhill SCADA Server is running in standby mode and has synchronized to the active server.
	The Fernhill SCADA Server is running, but there is a problem with the standby configuration.
	The Fernhill SCADA Server is not running.

Right-click the Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon to open the Notification Icon Menu:

This menu contains these commands:

Menu Entry	Description
About	Displays the About Box showing the version of Fernhill SCADA installed.
Operator Interface	Opens the Operator Interface for the instance of Fernhill SCADA running on this computer.
View	Display the View Menu allowing you to choose a Fernhill SCADA data table to view.
User Rights...	Opens the User Rights Editor to define the access rights users, or user groups.
Server Certificates	Opens the Server Certificate Menu to manage the X.509 Certificates of the Web Server and OPC UA Server. Note: This menu is only available if at least one optional server is enabled.
Backup...	Allows you to back up the current configuration to a file.
Restore...	Restores configuration from a previous backup file.
Open client log file folder	Opens Windows Explorer where you can view client diagnostic log files.
Open server log file folder	Opens Windows Explorer where you can view server diagnostic log files.
Start Server Monitor	Opens the Server Monitor Tool.
Manage Windows Service...	Opens the Fernhill SCADA Service Manager. Using this tool you can: Start and stop the Fernhill SCADA Service. Choose whether the Fernhill SCADA Service starts automatically. Edit Server Configuration File.
Exit	Closes the Fernhill SCADA Notification Icon.
