Add a Standby Server to an Existing Server

Introduction

This guide takes you through the steps needed to add a new Fernhill SCADA Server to an existing Fernhill SCADA Server.

Before You Begin

Before you start make sure you have the following equipment and information:

Information Information: If you are converting a live system to redundant server configuration follow these steps carefully to avoid data loss. Use the backup command of the Server Notification Icon Menu to backup your configuration before you start.

Note: These instructions refer to the computers using the labels Existing Computer and New Computer. Attach temporary labels to the computers to help you identify each computer during the setup procedure.

Setup Procedure

  1. On the Existing Computer, edit the SCADA Server Parameters file and add these parameters:

    ParameterValue
    StandbyServerName The IP Address, or Node Name, of the New Computer.
    StandbyServerPassword The common password.

    Note: See SCADA Server Parameters for information on how to edit the SCADA Server Parameters file.

  2. Stop and then restart the Existing Computer. Note: See Managing the SCADA Server for instructions on how to do this.
  3. Open the Server Monitor Tool on the Existing Computer. Wait for the Fernhill SCADA Server to indicate "Active server running without a standby server".
  4. Install Fernhill SCADA on the New Computer.

  5. Stop the Fernhill SCADA Server on the New Computer.

  6. On the New Computer, edit the SCADA Server Parameters file and add these parameters:

    ParameterValue
    StandbyServerName The IP Address, or Node Name, of the Existing Computer.
    StandbyServerPassword The common password.

  7. Start the Fernhill SCADA Server on the New Computer.
  8. Open the Server Monitor Tool on the New Computer. Wait for the Fernhill SCADA Server to indicate "Standby server synchronized to an active server".
