Table Expression (SQL)

Introduction

The Table Expression allows filtering and grouping on a table-reference-list.

Syntax

table-expression ::=
  from-clause
   [ where-clause ]
   [ group-by-clause ]

from-clause ::=
  FROM table-reference-list

where-clause ::=
  WHERE search-condition

Remarks

A table-expression allows these filtering and grouping operations on a table-reference-list:

Each optional clause is applied to the previous clause. The table-expression is the result of the final clause. If the where-clause and group-by-clause are omitted, the result of the table-expression is the same as the from-clause.

Examples

An table expression that retrieves table names in the 'Core' schema:

SELECT T.Table_Name
    FROM information_Schema.Tables T
    WHERE T.Table_Schema = 'Core'
